Roald Dahl Day
-
-
We started off sixth class reading ‘Witches’ by the wonderful author Roald Dahl. This led to us celebrating Roald Dahl Day on Friday The 13th. On Roald Dahl day we created lots of Funky art. We designed our own cover for our favourite Roald Dahl book and created disgusting marvellous medicines, with ingredients like dogs bones and dragons eyes being added to the potions. We ended the day watching an international interview with Roald Dahl’s daughter.

Buddy Assembly
-
-
The Buddy Assembly took place on the 26th of September. Sixth class introduced a huge class of mischievous little Junior Infants to the rest of the school. We spent the week interviewing and getting to know our buddies. We drew pictures and played with the new members of St. Kevin’s. On the day of the assembly we stood before the rest of the school in the hall and read our piece about each buddy.

Spookathon
-
-
Ghost, Ghouls and all things cruel arrived in St. Kevin’s on the 25th of October. Spookathon 2013 was here. The whole class dressed up. Some costumes were fun and some were scary. We had a great Spookathon day eating sweets, playing Hallowe’en games and performing our poem ‘Afraid of the Dark’ during the assembly.

Watch Out for the Marrog!
-
-
In English we looked at a poem called ‘The Marrog’, by R.C.Scriven. The Marrog is about an alien from Mars that ‘is sitting at the back of the classroom and NOBODY knows.’ We all enjoyed this poem and had great fun pretending the Marrog came to St.Kevin’s. So be careful that he’s not sitting at the back of your classroom watching you work and messing with you when you’re supposed to be listening.
Katie
The Marrog
My desk’s at the back of the class
And nobody knows but nobody knows
I’m a Marrog, from Mars
With a body of brass
And seventeen fingers and toes.
Wouldn’t they shriek if they knew
I’ve three eyes in the back of my head
And my hair is bright purple,
My nose is deep blue
And my teeth are half- yellow and half-red.
My five arms are silver and spiked
With knives on them shaped that spears.
I could go right back now if I liked——
And return in a million light years.
I could gobble them all
For I am seven foot tall
And I’m breathing green flames from my ears.
Wouldn’t they yell if they knew,
If they guessed a Marrog was here?
Ha ha they haven’t a clue –
Or they would tremble in fear!
“Look, look, a Marrog”
They’d all scream – and smack
The blackboard would fall and the ceiling would crack
A teacher would faint, I suppose.
But I would grin to myself, sitting right at the back
And nobody, nobody knows .

Science Week 2013
-
-
Science Week was a great success. We had a lot of fun bringing classes into sixth class and showing them some experiments. As each class came in they went to different stations; mirror writing, rocket launch, balancing, floating and sinking, fingerprinting and the lung blower. Einstein would have been proud of us.

Anyone for a Cake?
-
-
On the 13th of November we had a cake sale. The Parents’ Committee organised it and sixth class helped. We were the best sellers ever. As each class arrived we took it in turn to sell the cakes. We sold a lot and we ATE a lot. The cakes were yummy. We loved selling but the best part of the day was DEFINITELY eating them. One direction cupcakes were MA FAV!!!!

Santa's Little Treasure Helpers
-
-
Just before Christmas we had a treasure hunt with our buddies. We had been learning about Cryptography in History so created our own codes for different people to crack. We received two chocolate Santas to hide for each team. When we cracked the codes we had to follow the clues to find the chocolate. We ate the delicious chocolate and said bye to our buddies.

So Close!! The Credit Union Quiz
-
-
A huge congratulations to our Sixth Class Table Quiz team, who participated in the Irish League of Credit Unions National Schools Table Quiz on Friday evening in Our Lady of Good Counsel Boys’ School. The competition was contested closely by all teams and the questions were far from easy which made the achievements of all teams more impressive. Our thanks to Ms. Monaghan too, for all here help and support on the night. Our Sixth Class performed wonderfully well, finishing in fourth place, not more than five points behind the actual winners. Check out our commendably cerebral competitors below, who were a true credit to the collective scholars of St. Kevin’s!

IADT Future Graduates!!!
-
-
In the torrential rain we walked to IADT to be Simon Cowell judges for the accountancy X-Factor. We were met by lovely pastries and juices on our arrival. The first year business students presented their accountancy presentations and we had to judge and mark each teams work. After the presentations we experienced college life with an amazing tour of the campus. We visited the radio and T.V. studios, the library, the canteen, the students’ area and the modelling art buildings. In the lovely sunshine we strolled back to St.Kevin’s tired but full of enthusiasm.

St. Kevin's Spring Clean!
-
-
This week the super scholars of St. Kevin’s sprung into action for our annual Spring Clean, which is led by the great Green School Committee. All the boys and girls were committed to their cleaning on the day, and they did a smashing Spring clean of our yards, basketball courts, football pitches and gardens. At the end of the day our school looked like it had been sponged, scoured and scrubbed, and it looked super slick. So our thanks to our scholars for a superb Spring Clean!! Click on the link to see all the action!!

Milano’s Meet the Master Chefs in 5th & 6th
-
-
The Dúshlán Challenge has come to an end. After six weeks of learning new skills and participating in lots of fun activities we received our medals and certificates, along with a surprise trip to Milano’s restaurant in Dun Laoghaire. We’d great fun with 5th Class creating our very own pizzas. The best part was getting to eat every last crumb.
